COLUMBIA - It is the gift that keeps on giving and it means fewer hungry families in Mid-Missouri.

The Central Missouri Food Bank received a $70,000 grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health. Four food banks experiencing extreme shortages received these grants. Sikeston, Springfield and St. Louis also received money. With just one dollar providing fifteen meals, $70,000 can feed many hungry people.

"The $70,000 equates to about, right under a million meals that we'll be able to provide to people in need. There are about 100,000 people in our service area that go to bed hungry every night and this is going to put food on their tables," said Jessica Spanglehour of Central Missouri Food Bank.

The Central Missouri Food Bank will meet its goal of distributing 20,000,000 pounds of food this year. Next year's goal? 25,000,000.
