COLUMBIA - With snow and ice just about every week here in mid-Missouri, the roads have become covered with salt and residents have had to deal with the conditions.

The week started with a dusting of snow and sleet. As the days passed mid-Missouri temperatures remained below average with the exception of Valentine's Day.

That day offered sweet relief from the frigid weather, and the unseasonably warm weather brought many mid-Missourians out for a day at the car wash.

The salt, cinder and debris left by winter storms can be a problem for cars.

"One of the best preventative maintenance things you can do is just to go ahead and pay a little extra when you wash your car or have the underbelly completely washed," said Dorian Brownlee of Perry Cheverolet Automotive.

One driver said she doesn't mind the mess.

"Salt really isn't that big of a deal for me; it's just part of winter," said Ashley Bleazard.

This week's cold temperatures continue, but spring is just five weeks away.

"I'm so excited for spring," said Bleazard. "This weather makes me want spring to come even more."

And with rain expected for Sunday, everyone might be getting a car wash from Mother Nature.
