OSAGE BEACH - Tuesday was a perfect day to catch some sun rays, get a few putts in and rally behind the troops.

Citizens, soldiers and businesses gathered Tuesday to support soldiers at Fort Leonard Wood. Support the Fort is a new group in Osage Beach and Tuesday the group held a golf fundraiser for Wounded Warriors - a Fort Leonard Wood support group for returning soldiers.

Military families attended the event to watch skydiving, have lunch and play a round of golf.

"We're raising money today (Tuesday) for an event we're gonna host in September. Which is bringing wounded warriors from fort Leonard Wood up to the lake for a free day of fun," said Danna Kahrs of the Sycamore Creek Golf Course.

About 35 soldiers and their families attended the event. They say they want to get to know the community.

"One of the things we admire is, a lot of people will put up signs, 'We Support Our Troops,' but there's no substance to the words," said Olga Hayes. "And when you do activities like this, you put substance to words."

"Families are so brave," said Kahrs. "Whenever soldiers get deployed, their families stay behind and take care of the normal day to day things that go on."

This is the first event for Support the Fort in Osage Beach.
