COLUMBIA - On Monday, a conference addressing immigration issues kicked off in Columbia.

"Cambio de Colores" means change of colors in Spanish. It draws participants from across the state to discuss issues ranging from civil rights and education to the arts and health care. The main goal is to help integrate Latinos into society in a way that benefits them and their communities.

"Certainly working with a Hispanic population for many people is a challenge," explained Christina Vasques Case, organizer of Cambio de Colores. "But I encourage people who are interested to continue to learn and continue to work because communities are going to continue to change."

This is the seventh year for the event. While there are conferences similar to it on the coasts, its one of the kind in the Midwest.
