COOPER COUNTY - Issues on the Cooper County ballot are bringing out voters on Tuesday. One issue in particular is important to some Cooper County residents.

There are many issues on the April ballot in Cooper County, but only one that really carries voters to the polls. It's the renewal of a half a cent tax for improvements and repairs on roads. Some say the tax is important because it's the only way the county gets money for these kinds of repairs and additions.

"Those funds that we use basically for all our bridge replacements and culvert replacements won't exist anymore," said Eddie Brickner, a Cooper County Commissioner. "We don't have another source of revenue to make up that."

Over the past ten years, the tax has allowed Cooper County to make many improvements, including over 120 box culverts that allow people to drive over the water instead of through it. While some think the tax is a good idea, others think the money could be put to better use than it has in the past.

"I think some of the overpasses and some of the less important roads need to be fixed because we've had several complaints," said Cooper County resident Joshua Hanke. "Sometimes, they just throw rocks over the cracks it seems."

Hanke adds that he isn't registered to vote, but if he was he would vote in favor of the proposal. If the proposal is accepted it would be in place until 2012.
