COOPER COUNTY - Cell phones are now banned at Prairie Home School.
A new school year brings new school rules at Prairie Home. High school principal Daren Nichols says cell phones are a distraction and that the district just wanted to create a safer school environment. Nichols says students can bring cell phones to school, but they have to stay in the main office during normal hours.
Regardless of the board's decision, some students think a cell phone is not necessary in school.
"I think it really won't matter if you use a cell phone or not because you are in the same school and you really don't need to use it because you have friends besides you and you have other classmates, you have teachers right there with you, so if anything happens you will be ok," says student Daniel Paulsen.
"On our way home from an away game we are not allowed to use our cell phones. We have a school bus cell phone and I don't know, I just don't think that is fair either. They told us why but I think we should get a fair chance," says student Taylor Zey.
