COLUMBIA - Members of Grass Roots Organizing (GRO) protested in favor of a public option for universal health care on Tuesday.
The protestors designed the protest to look like a crime scene. Aiming at Wellpoint Insurance, one of the largest insurance companies in the country, they claimed big insurance companies are just concerned with the bottom line.
"All we want is a choice. Without it there is no accountability and those folks are making profits when we get sick," said protester Robin Acree.
GRO urged the public to be informed about the raging debate over health care, in particular, the public option. Robin Remington, a former University of Missouri professor, said the health care issue is the most pressing of this generation.
"It is very much linked to both the economy and with the security of the country," said Remington. "Because people who don't have insurance get sick, well, they can't work. Then they can't contribute within the economy."
The protest lasted for about thirty minutes. A few passersby expressed their opposition and disagreement with the public option.
