LAKE OZARK - With the passage of the economic stimulus package, Missouri went right to work on state road projects.

One of the biggest was already in the works and is now ready for traffic. It was the largest grading and excavating project ever for MoDOT. The improvements were seven miles long, included four bridges, two interchanges, and a $53 million bill. Today ends two years of work for Highway 5. The improvements run from Niangua Bridge and Route 7.

But cars won't ride the road until a celebration is over. At 10:30 today, Congressman Ike Skelton will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Evening activities begin at 5:30, including a car show and a bounce house for kids. Fireworks go off at 9:00 p.m.

The highway will then be open for public traffic. And then maybe a little time to relax after a big project.
