COLUMBIA - Missouri has one of the best kickers in the country this season. Grant Ressel has missed only one field goal attempt and is perfect in extra points.

He's a semi-finalist for the award for the best kicker in the country.

So what does this walk-on think of all the attention?

"You want to keep your focus in practice. Instead of worrying about 'I have to make this kick cause if I don't it might cost me the Lou Groza Award, or something like that, you can't think about it," said Missouri sophomore kicker Grant Ressel.

He's followed much the same path as former Mizzou kicker Jeff Wolfert, a walk-on who excelled for the Tigers.

Wolfert was also a Lou Groza Award semi-finalist.

"He accomplished a lot. I've just been fortunate. I've had a great holder and great snapping this season. Beau [Brinkley, Missouri sophomore tight end and long snapper] has been getting them back there, right perfectly for Forrest [Shock, Missouri junior wide receiver and holder] and Forrest has been getting them down for me and it makes my job a lot easier," said Ressel.

The success of Ressel has earned him a nickname from his teammates this season.

"I call him the golden shoe, that's what I call him. He makes a lot of field goals," said Missouri sophomore receiver Jerrell Jackson.

Ressel said it's become a team-wide nickname.

"I don't know who started it, but it's caught on," said Ressel.

His teammates say it's comforting to have the golden shoe on the team because he has been so reliable.

"If we don't score touchdowns, I have all the confidence in the world in Grant. He's missed one kick all year. He's just been a tremendous asset to our team," said Missouri sophomore quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Ressel says it's his teammates who have allowed him to get where he is today.

"Without them, I'd be nothing. I can't kick a field goal past a certain range and they get me in range and I'd rather kick extra points all day if we could just score every time, that'd be wonderful," said Ressel.

So, any other nicknames for Grant?

"Mr. Clutch, that's about it," said Gabbert.

Yeah, that will probably work too.

Ressel has made 20-21 field goal attempts and all of his 35 extra point attempts.
