"I mean after all, it's just a matter of opinion as to what is the best thing to do and a good community debate is a good thing," Hindman explained.

The meeting gave organized groups on both sides of the issue equal time. Then, the council opened the floor to public comment. Those in favor of the ban said protecting workers and youth are reasons the ban needs to pass.

"This is the only industry in the United States that allows exposure to a Class A carcinagine," Turner said.

That Carcinogen is second-hand smoke. But, those opposed said its all about choice.

"I think people can choose the risks that they take, there's ample number of jobs in this town for people that don't want to smoke, some people like to be in a smoking environment," Greg Rennier of Boone Liberty Coalition said.

Each side continued its arguments in hopes the council will vote in its favor. The council will then debate and decide whether to vote on the ordinance or table it to another meeting. If the council does decide to pass the ordinances it would immediately go into effect.
