JEFFERSON CITY- Schools, property taxes and gambling. It's a mixed bag for Mid-Missouri voters.

In Jefferson City, two gambling issues are on the ballot and voters from the First Ward, Third Precinct in Cole County are at the CERF building to cast their ballots. Election officials say the number of voters is higher than predicted.

The number of voters at 6 p.m. are at 498. There are approximately 1,700 registered voters for this location.

Election officials say it is a higher number than predicted. The city clerk predicted twelve percent of Cole County's registered voters would turnout to cast ballots today. The polling location for the First Ward, Third Precinct passed the twelve percent earlier in the afternoon.

Election officals believe the gambling issue is bringing voters out. There are two propositions on the ballot to allow casino and riverboat gambling in Jefferson City on today's ballot.  Both must pass to allow casino and riverboat gambling.

"I think its obviously the gambling issue.....I think people feel very stongly about it one way or another," said Election official John Shimmens.

KOMU will have results from Jefferson city, along with communities across Mid-Missouri tonight on Komu News at ten. You can also follow the results as they come in, at KOMU.com.
