JEFFERSON CITY -  The House has passed legislation that would bar Missouri from following federal rules for driver's licenses that critics say violates privacy protections. Republican House member Jim Guest, of King City, leads a national coalition opposing federal standards for issuing state identification. Congress in 2005 approved the federal requirements because of national security fears. Residents in states that don't meet the federal standards won't be allowed to use their driver's licenses to get on airplanes or enter federal buildings. Guest says the federal driver's license requirements are excessive for something that is purely for identification.
