JEFFERSON CITY - Governor Matt Blunt announced an expansion of the Missouri Alert Network to higher education institutions in the state.
The emergency alert system is already in place for K-through12 schools. The system makes it possible for school officials to get emergency alerts from the Governor's Office and the Department of Public Safety.
The network will make it possible for school officials to get emergency alerts from the Governor's office and the Department of Public Safety.
This afternoon MU President Gary Forsee sent a message to MU students and faculty, encouraging them to register for emergency alerts.
"We want our campuses to have a culture of openness, and at the same time, we want our campuses to have a culture of safety. A safe environment for learning. All that suggests is that we have to do everything we can to prepare," Forsee said.
Blunt said the program was up and running on Tuesday and colleges will receive e-mail invitations this week.
