COLUMBIA - When it's time to buy or sell, most people turn to the traditional classified ads or online alternatives like eBay. A Columbia web site is offering a third option.
"Honestly, the great thing about this site is that local businesses [have] a chance to really reach out to their best customers, which is this local Columbia community," said Benjamin Broidy, a team member of finditcomo.com.
E-bay connects users all over the country, meaning shipping costs are always involved. Finditcomo.com organizes users by zip code and for now is focused on Columbia and the surrounding communities. Local realtors have been one of the biggest groups drawn to the site.
"I spend a lot of money on advertising, so if i can get something that's effective and low cost [in] just as many avenues as i can get people's houses into and out there where the public can see it, then i'm gonna use it," explained Travis Kempf, an employee of Plaza Real Estate. "Just another tool, but i think it's a good one."
Traditional classified ads always keep it local, but can be costly. Twelve and a half dollars gets you two lines of text. Finditcomo.com users get unlimited text for 99 cents. Advertisers can also upload an unlimited number of photos to show off their goods. Finditcomo.com also has a section of the site dedicated to college students that is free of charge.
"Instead of going around campus putting up those little sheets with tearing off slips, they can just use the site for free and it takes about two minutes to do" said Broidy. "Like its national competitors, users can pay with credit card or PayPal. Whether you're job hunting or selling real estate, it's an online option with a local flavor."
