JEFFERSON CITY - More than 15 "suspicious fires" have occurred in the city since August 2008.
The smell of charred wood still lingers at a foreclosed home on Ewing Drive in Jefferson City.
Jefferson City Police say the fire began outside the house and spread into the structure.
It's the first of the 15 fires to affect a residential property.
The home fire "causes us some pretty serious concern as to what's going to happen next," said Jefferson City Police Department Captain Doug Shoemaker.
Just this past weekend, someone set a dumpster and wooden pallets on fire behind the Gerbes Super Store on Schotthill Woods Drive.
It's unclear how much money the damage to the home, dumpster, and destroyed pallets will cost.
A spokesperson for the realtor selling the home says it's also unclear whether the home will remain on the market as-is, or if it'll be repaired with insurance money.
