BOONE COUNTY - Two stores were burglarized during the middle of the night. One lost over $15,000 in merchandise.
Employees at the Leatherwood Hills General Store southwest of Columbia arrived at work Wednesday and discovered their store had been burglarized. According to a Leatherwood Hills employee, the incident occurred between 1 and 3 am Wednesday.
The criminals took an estimated $15,000 of merchandise from the store after shattering the windows and disabling the store's alarm. They also cut the power to the store as well as the phone lines.
Another break-in occcurred at Meek's Builders Choice overnight. But a Boone County Sheriff's news release said "At this time there is no report of any property having been stolen."
The Boone County Sheriff dispatched a car to investigate the burglar alarm at Meeks around 3:00 am. Less than an hour and a half later, deputies responded to the incident at Leatherwood Hills General Store.
The news release from the Sheriff's Department did not mention a connection between the two incidents.
