We received dozens of emails about a KOMU story regarding the debate over a possible link between vaccines and autism. It's worth noting, nearly everyone who contacted us lived out of state as the story was posted on a website.

We got this email from Anne McElroy Dachel who lives in Wisconsin,

"It's important that both sides of the debate are being presented. Here one parents makes a claim and is challenged by a doctor. That's implying that the science isn't on the mother's side. It gives a false impression and there are countless experts from around the country more than happy to explain the link between vaccines and autism."

This one from a mother named Linda Weinmaster,

"My son has mercury poisoning from the Rhogam shot I received during my 28th week of pregnancy. Dr. Miles worked for Johnson and Johnson the maker of Rhogam that poisoned my son. J&J paid for the study. Please look at the flaws in the study. You will have a different conclusion."

Your Health executive producer Angie Bailey responds,

"We did a balanced story. We interviewed a mother who believed vaccines played a role in her son's autism but at the same time, The Thompson Autism Center based at MU is a reputable source about autism as well so when it's study showed there was not a link, that's the other side to the story. We're only good as the facts we have before us in that we can only report the facts. Just because someone feels strongly one way or another doesn't necessarily make it factual, we do rely on research in our medical reporting to make sure we have the numbers to back up what we're reporting."
