The police department received the grant from the United States Department of Justice. The grant is worth more than $18,000 and will cover about 50 percent of the total cost of installation for the cameras in the middle school.

At Moberly High School, security plays a big part in the middle school's safety. Moberly High School uses digital security cameras for student safety and to catch rule breakers. Principal Gena McCluskey thinks these cameras are doing the job.

"We've had a couple of fights, it lets us go back and see exactly how it started or in what area, if there is anything that precipitated before," explained McCluskey.

The high school has about 25 cameras both inside and out. The digital cameras were installed last spring through a grant similar to the middle school's. The security system captures everything seen by the safety cameras and can even be rewound to look back at past video. Moberly Middle School will soon have a similar system, with a few changes.

"In the middle school it's going to hopefully be web-based, so any one of us with the right passwords could get into that right off our computer monitor," said Moberly Middle School Principal Aaron Vitt.

The 16 new cameras will focus on the entry ways and exits. That means they will help ensure student safety first, then discipline.

Moberly Middle School is hoping to have the security cameras up and running in two months. The grant comes in light of a previous grant recieved last year by the Moberly Police Department.

The Secure Our Schools grant provided the high school with their cameras. So far, Moberly Police have obtained $40,000 to use towards security inside the district's schools.
