JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - The Missouri Gaming Commission votes to take applications for a new casino in eastern Jackson County. The vote opens the door for a new casino in Sugar Creek, but doesn't guarantee one will be built. Critics of allowing another casino say the Kansas City market is already crowded and about to get competition from Kansas. Lawmakers have asked the commission's executive director whether it is responsible to allow another Kansas City casino. Director Gene McNary says it's not the job of regulators to protect businesses from competition. Iowa-based Wild Rose Entertainment has filed an application for the Sugar Creek site. Other companies have until March 11 to apply as a result of Wednesday's vote.
