COLUMBIA - The sights, sounds and smells before a football game may be the same every year, but this year it's expectations that are different.
The Missouri Tigers are currently ranked sixth in the AP Poll--a very different place for the Tigers, who started as an unranked team last season.
And Tiger Football fans are ready to see how the team's play matches up to the ranking.
"I think we're looking good this year. I'm pumped," fan Zach Williams said.
The high expectations for this year's season have brought in many new football fans.
"We've reached record ticket sales," Missouri Athletic spokesperson Chad Moller said.
But if you weren't able to get a ticket, you might have turned on the TV only to find out the game is only on Pay Per View.
"It's the first time we've had a home game on pay per view," Moller said.
If a game is televised, it is picked up by Fox Sports Network or ABC. These networks have exclusive rights to broadcast the game.
"The only way a game can be televised if it's not part of the conference package is if it's on Pay Per View," Moller said.
"I think most people will probably just go to the bar and watch it, because no one wants to pay. It's like 30 bucks," Williams said.
Thirty dollars doesn't seem like much to Campus Bar and Grill owner Chris Flood. He paid thousands of dollars to televise the game.
"Right around $2,000," Flood said.
Bar owners pay based on capacity. It's $400 to start, and then the capacity is multiplied by five.
"It wasn't a hard decision to make. It's something we want to be able to offer to our customers," Flood said.
But at The Heidelberg, they won't be showing the game on their TVs.
"Here in Columbia, I don't see the what the point of paying a few thousand dollars for that game would be, but that's someone else's business decision," said Rusty Walls, The Heidelberg's manager and co-owner.
"I guess that's just the price you pay for having as good a football team as we have," Flood said.
Next weekend's game against Nevada will also be on Pay Per View. You can contact you cable or satellite provider to order the game.
