COLUMBIA - The Missouri Tigers opened their home-game play for the 2008 season in a big way Saturday at Faurot Field.

Early in the first quarter, the Tigers made their mark on their Southeast Missouri State opponents.

In the Tigers' first possession, sophomore tailback Derrick Washington rushed for 5 yards for the Tigers first touchdown of the game.

About halfway through the first quarter, Washington helped the Tigers secure a second touchdown with a 22-yard run to the SEMO 3 yard line. Sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Maclin then made a 3-yard run for a touchdown to bring the score up to 14-0.

SEMO tried to get on the scoreboard with a field goal attempt from the 28-yard line. But that attempt was blocked by senior defensive lineman Ziggy Hood and the Tigers recovered on the MU 25-yard line.

At the end of the first quarter, Washington ran a 28-yard pass to score another touchdown for the Tigers, making the score 21-0.

Junior wide receiver Jared Perry started off the second quarter with a 28-yard run that led to a touchdown and put the score at 28-0 for the Tigers.

The Tigers continued to dominate when junior linebacker Sean Weatherspoon intercepted a pass from SEMO senior quarterback Houston Lillard at the MU 35-yard line. Weatherspoon ran the interception 65 yards for a touchdown, and the Tigers' lead increased to 35-0.

Washington scored his third touchdown with a 5-yard run about half through the second quarter to bring up the score 42-0, Tigers leading.

At the end of the second quarter, SEMO again attempted a field goal from the 28-yard line. But the ball went wide left, spot at the MU 25-yard line, and left SEMO off the scoreboard for the first half of the game.

In the third quarter, senior second-string quarterback Chase Patton stepped in.

Toward the end of the third quarter, senior placekicker Jeff Wolfert kicked 43-yard field goal so that Mizzou led 45-0.

At the top of the fourth quarter, SEMO put points on the scoreboard with a 31-yard field goal by junior kicker Doug Spada. Spada's field goal dashed hopes of a shutout for Mizzou, although the Tigers still led 45-3.

Mizzou answered Spada's field goal with another touchdown. Senior tailback Jimmy Jackson had a 17-yard run for a touchdown, making the score 52-3, Mizzou leading.

The remainder of the fourth quarter was a back and forth exchange of the ball by both teams. There was no additional scoring, and the final score of the first home game was 52-3 with Mizzou winning by a landslide.
