COLUMBIA - KOMU News followed all of the events surrounding the National Socialist Movement parade through downtown Columbia Saturday. As emotions soared, KOMU was there to document it. Click here to see all our KOMU.com exclusives.
Here at KOMU we gave careful consideration to how we would cover the neo-Nazi march Saturday. In the end, KOMU News Director Stacey Woelfel decided that KOMU News would best serve the community by providing balanced coverage of the day's events.
"I think it's a case of more speech rather than less speech, which is something that we have always supported and something I've always supported, that I'd rather get views out there and let people make up their own minds about them," Woelfel said. "The constitution was set up to protect unpopular speech knowing that some of it would rise to the level of great speech, and some of it would fall to the level of evil speech. But it's better to put it out there and let people decide for themselves."
