COLUMBIA - The police department has released the number of traffic stops it made Wednesday on I-70 and U.S. Highway 63.
Officers from the Columbia Police Department, Boone County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the MU Police Department conducted the speed trap on the two major thoroughfares during the daytime hours Wednesday.
The most serious tickets went to the driver of a vehicle traveling 91 mph in a 70 mph zone near the Midway area, and a driver traveling 84 mph in a 60 mph zone within city limits.
The following are the total numbers of tickets issued for various offenses:
- Speeding: 54 tickets, 4 warnings
- Following Too Close: 6 tickets, 2 warnings
- Move Over Violations: 6 tickets, 1 warning
- Steady Red Light: 1 ticket
- Lane Violation: 2 tickets
- No Insurance: 1 ticket
- Defective Equipment: 1 warning
- Expired Driver License: 1 warning
- Seat Belt Violation: 2 tickets
