KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Star has endorsed Democrat Jay Nixon for Missouri governor, preferring his ideas on health care and education to those of Republican opponent Kenny Hulshof. In its endorsement Sunday, the newspaper applauded Nixon's plan to restore Medicaid cuts instituted by Gov. Matt Blunt in 2005, cuts the Star says Rep. Hulshof has defended. The Star also praised Nixon's plan to make funding for public education a priority as well as his opposition to private school vouchers. The Joplin Globe also endorsed Nixon on Sunday, citing Nixon's long tenure as attorney general and his work prosecuting price-gougers after the 2007 ice storms that hit southwest Missouri.
