COLUMBIA - A single fire sprinkler put out a dumpster fire Saturday morning at Paquin Towers, preventing damage to the building.
The Columbia Fire Department responded to a fire alarm call around 7:45 a.m. on 1201 Paquin Street.
Upon arrival, fire fighters found the dumpster in the loading dock area had been on fire, but the sprinkler was able to put it out.
There was no damage to the building and no evacuations were required.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but investigators do not believe it was intentionally set.
Officals said if fire sprinklers had not been present, the potential for extensive damage and evacuations of the building would have been likely.
