JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon and the backers of a casino ballot measure continue to lead the way in fundraising. Reports filed Monday with the Missouri Ethics Commission show Nixon has raised $16 million, including $2.5 million in the most recent period from Oct. 1 through Oct. 23. He still had nearly $1.7 million on hand to spend before the Nov. 4 election. Nixon's Republican opponent, Kenny Hulshof, had raised almost $8.3 million, including $1.2 million in the most recent period. He reported less than $600,000 on hand. Casinos have contributed $15 million to the committee supporting Proposition A. That ballot measure would repeal Missouri's gamblers' loss limits, raise casino taxes and cap casino licenses. The new revenues would go to public schools.
