GLASGOW - They say the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. That's good logic especially if you're driving in your car.

In Glasgow, they use a ferry to get around until crews finish construction on a new bridge. The old bridge was built in the 1920s.

"Hopefully we'll have this bridge up soon everyone will be driving across and happy again," said Tyrone Simms, the bridge foreman.

"What will the new bridge mean? Wider for one thing, won't have mirrors clanging on the side. It will be nice. The old one was in bad shape it was really needed," said Glasgow banker Jim Aholt.

Without the ferry, drivers had to go way out of there way either to Boonville or Miami.

"It was quite a ways around 110 miles round trip so I'll be glad when it gets done," said Gilliam driver Kenny Young.

MoDOT says construction on replacing the old bridge is on schedule. The new bridge should be open by early August.
