JEFFERSON CITY - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Claire McCaskill wants more federal money with less strings attached for public schools. Friday, McCaskill criticized the federal No Child Left Behind law, which requires schools to meet student performance goals or be penalized. She said the law's 588 requirements are too many, but didn't single out any for elimination. The federal law is up for renewal next year in Congress. Sen. Jim Talent's spokesman said Talent supports changing the law to focus on student improvements instead of meeting absolute standards.
