COLUMBIA- Matt Davis is in his third season as a walk-on for Mizzou, but this year is special to him thanks to a new teammate. In this week's edition of Blumberg Off The Bench, learn the story of two brothers who are working on their dream.

When Matt Davis scores a touchdown in practice, the cheer seems a little louder than on most scores. He's a walk-on, and he did it the hard way.

"I just came on the first day of school. I was a scrub, I worked from the way up. I had it the hard way," Matt Davis said.

21-year old Matt has an 18-year old brother, Tyler. Their entire life they've been more than just brothers. The two have been friends, sidekicks, and briefly teammates at Osage High School for a few games during Matt's senior year.

"After the game he was really sad to see that end. I was upset. I didn't think that we'd ever play again," Matt Davis said.

The feelings of sadness were mutual.

"I look up to him so much that it really did hurt a lot," Tyler Davis said.

When Matt left for Mizzou, Tyler's high school football career at Osage took off thanks to lessons learned from his older brother.

"Everything that we learned here I was trying to incorporate to him back there: workouts, supplements, and vitamins. He took off on it," Matt Davis said.

Tyler turned down scholarship offers from smaller schools to follow big brother's footsteps and walk-on at Mizzou.

"If Matt can do it I can do it. I mean, he's been tough through all of it. He's stuck with it. He's having a lot of fun," Tyler Davis said.

The goal for both brothers is to get on the field during a game, but the Davis duo differs when it comes to having a "Rudy" moment.

"That's one of my favorite sports movies. I use that. I use that as an example," Tyler Davis said.

However, Matt feels differently.

"No, no. I don't want the Rudy moment. I want to get out there and earn some playing time," Matt Davis said.

Playing time doubles as family time they thought they'd never have again.

"It was so sad because we thought we'd never play on the same field again. Now, he's got another year after this. Got two years together, pretty cool," Tyler Davis said.

"You're part of the team. You're just glad you had the opportunity to come out here and put a helmet on everyday and to people that like that kind of stuff, that's the greatest joy in the world," Matt Davis said.

The Davis' aren't the first brother teammates at Mizzou. Just last season, Brad and Ryan Madison played together for the Tigers.

Matt Davis is a fourth team running back. Tyler Davis is going to play on scout team as a defensive back this season.
