VANDALIA - The Department of Revenue grants Vandalia's bid to bring back a drivers license office.
The new office will open in Vandalia's city hall. For months, Vandalia residents had to leave the city to get their licenses, traveling to offices in Bowling Green or Mexico.
"You're talking 60 miles roundtrip, shooting down in the morning to have to go do something that I could have done on my lunch hour," says Harold William, who owns a barber shop in Vandalia. "It's a lot better here in Vandalia."
The old license office used to be privately run alongside a tax service by the same woman, Nancy Stotler. After she retired several months ago, the office officially closed.
Vandalia resident Deidra Hayden just turned 21, so she was forced to drive 16 miles to Bowling Green to get her new license.
"With gas prices what they are, it wasn't really something I wanted to do," Hayden says.
Residents will still have to wait a little longer for the office to open, but welcome the change.
"That's a pretty good thing, because you're gonna save a lot of money on gas and convenience," says Hayden. "It's a good thing for the city."
