LADDONIA - Despite problems across the country, the town hasn't lost confidence in one industry.
This business is not only steady, but plans to undergo a significant expansion.
"It's a pretty exciting time for the community here. We are in the process of investing about $2 million and a capacity increase, about 10 percent production increase," Plant General Manager Robin Venn said.
The plant manager said the company will create more jobs around the community and market opportunities for corn farmers.
The corn in Laddonia no longer has to be sent to St. Louis or Kansas City. It stays in town helping the local economy.
The plant owned by "Poet" will be buying more corn from mid-Missouri farmers than ever before.
"The farmers around there are excited now because they are able to be a part of something that they believe is the future," Representative Steve Hobbs of Mexico said.
The ethanol plant does not plan to hire additional people, but it may have a positive direct impact on the community.
The town of Laddonia is also consturcting a new sewer system.
Hobbs believes that would not have happened without the ethanol plant.
