IBERIA - The parents of the Iberia woman accused of murdering her 6-month-old son were arrested Monday.

Charleana White and her husband, Walter Lee White Jr. were taken into custody Monday by the Miller County sheriff's office. The couple are parents of Christina White, who was charged with first degree murder of her 6-month-old son.

This case goes back to June 23, the day Iberia police officers witnessed a number of criminal offenses leading up to these charges.

According to a probable cause statement, the White's 4-year-old granddaughter was walking in the middle of the street in front of their home without supervision.

When officers approached the White's front door, they saw a 13-year-old boy inside trying to light a marijuana pipe. Once inside the home, the officers said the Whites were making no attempt to stop the boy from smoking the marijuana. The officers later uncovered more marijuana in their possession.

Then, the officers said they witnessed a whole different set of problems. They said both Wayne Earl Anderson Jr., Christina White's 6-month-old son, and the White's other granddaugter, the 4-year old girl, were "filthy and dirty." They also say the house had a stench of rotten garbage, was uncomfortably warm, and had no running water. In the backyard, they noticed a pit two to three feet deep filled with sewage caused by a collapsed septic tank.

At this point, the Iberia mayor advised authorities to have the White's children checked by medical services. Then, child services released the children to Christina White and her boyfriend, even though Christina had previous child endangerment charges from Illinois.

Then, 18 days later, Christina White admitted to authorities she deliberately set fire to 6-month-old Wayne's blanket in an attempt to kill him. He died at University Hospital on July 31 from the second and third degree burns he suffered on more than 60 percent of his body.

Currently, Charleana White and Walter Lee White Jr. sit in Miller County Jail on a $10,000 bond each. They each face:

-- One felony count of child endangerment for allowing the 13-year old to smoke marijuana
--A second degree child endangerment misdemeanor for not supervising their 4-year old granddaughter
-- Another second degree child endangerment misdemanor for keeping children in "filthy and unsanitary conditions," and around the presence of marijuana.

Christina White is still in jail tonight on a $250,000 dollar bond. She faces a first degree murder charge and three child endangerment charges for the burned blanket incident back on July 11. Her arraignment for the murder charge is set for Monday August 13.
