FULTON - A Fulton house built in 1855 will be the focus of an episode of the HGTV show, If Walls Could Talk.
"This house was in the Jameson family from 1861 until 1982," said Cate Dodson, owner of Romancing the Past. "They were founding members of the community of Fulton."
Attorney John Jameson was the first of the family to own the home. He is famous for defending Celia, a Callaway county slave on trial for killing her master.
Another member of the family helped President Truman get into the senate.
"Ed Jameson, who was mayor of Fulton, helped Harry Truman get elected," Dodson said. "He was actually very good friends with him."
Cate and Jim Dodson have owned the house for three years. They are of no relation to the Jamesons, but try to uphold the family's legacy.
"The sad thing is that there have been Jamesons living on this piece of land for over 150 years, and now they are all gone," Dodson said. "We kind of feel like we are carrying their name on."
The Dodson's have made it their goal to find out as much as they can about the Jameson's.
"Now, just feeling like you know the people that once shared this house with you has just been really exciting," Dodson said.
"You never know what a house is going to hold in its walls. You're doing some digging, or tearing up floors and walls and you find something. That's how it starts and then you want to know where this came from, and the history behind it. That's 'If Walls Could Talk.' That's the show," said Lona Smith, field producer for HGTV. "It will be a great episode. It's got everything that makes this show what it is."
Dodson emailed HGTV after finding out the show's producers were looking for bed and breakfasts in mid-Missouri.
"They have a very long questionnaire that they like you to fill out which would probably intimidate some people, but not me," Dodson said.
To get ready for the eight-hour shoot, the Dodson's did more research on the family and lots of cleaning.
"Generally, it's clean always, but we did just that extra little bit of polish to make sure it's perfect," Cate's husband Jim said. "It's been well-loved and well taken care of, this old house."
The episode will air on September 15.
