LIVINGSTON, La. - Workers from Boone Electric traveled to Livingston, Louisiana to help with electric pole repairs and get the city's power up and running.

High grass and a muddy mess are just a few of the problems Boone Electric encountered when re-installing power lines and twisted poles.

"They've had a lot of damage, lot of broken poles...Lots of wire down. Lots of extensive tree damage, so pretty much what we expected when we left. Hard work? We're staying busy, yep," Jamie Conrow of Boone Electric said.

After the storm, Dixie Electric co-op officials said 97 percent of their customers were left in the dark.

"We'll go from one place that's line is broken down...That's torn down, we'll pick that up...If the poles need to be changed out, we change them out...Do whatever we have to do," Wyman Craig of Dixie Electric said.

The day starts at 4 a.m. and it doesn't take long for workers from Boone Electric to get to work. First, the men have to dig a hole right next to the old pole. Then, they raise a new one, make sure it's lined up and make sure that pole isn't going anywhere. The last step requires climbing gear and a lot of muscle.

The whole process takes about three to four hours for each damaged pole.

Around Livingston, most poles looked the same. The workers say that is why some residents wouldn't have power for weeks.

These men hope to leave Livingston knowing they made a difference.

"We like to get out and try to help get everyone's power on as quickly and safely as possible. We also like going and helping other co-ops, we don't ever want it to happen to us, we like to think that if it does, the guys will come out and they'll come to our co-op and help us," Conrow said.

The Boone Electric team is headed back to Columbia on Thursday.
