MILLER- Some Miller County residents are camping out, but it's not for fun. Instead, they want to ensure their spot in line.

Despite the cold temperatures, some residents are weathering the elements to get their name first on the ballot.

"I am planning on being out here 44 hours to get my name first on the ballot," said Brian Duncan, a candidate.

The camp-out started after residents said there were problems with the way incumbents filed in the past.

"Basically we sat in line all day for eight hours or nine hours, and at the end of the day they stepped him out of the office and put him in front of us, just point blank no less, they never sat in the line with us last time," said Duncan.

Residents said current Second District Commissioner Dave Whittle used the backdoor to jump the line. That "alleged" door will remain closed this time around.

"That's just a dead issue, I don't want to comment on it. The person said it was true and I denied and that is enough said on that issue," said Whittle.

Either way candidates said they plan to stay until their name gets on the ballot.

"I am here to prove a point and if I am after something, you know you don't get nothing unless you work for it," said Duncan.

Whittle said he will be in line right behind the other candidates.

"At 8 o'clock when the court house opens, I am going to walk in, and whatever position I am in I am in," said Whittle.
