AUDRAIN COUNTY - Gov. Jay Nixon toured the new Rockies Express Pipeline near Mexico Wednesday.
Rockies Express Pipeline runs natural gas from the Rocky Mountains through Missouri on its way to Ohio. The more than 1600 mile journey has provided Missouri with not only natural gas, but jobs.
Allen Fore from Rockies Express says the pipeline was a job maker during construction.
"Rockies Express was providing thousands of jobs," said Fore. "Many of those in the state of Missouri for about a year."
More than 700 Missouri workers labored on the construction of the pipeline. The Mexico-area compressor station will employ more than 200 workers when it opens. Gov. Nixon said the pipeline is great for the state. Nixon gave a proclamation to the station not only for the jobs but for the economic benefits it brings to the state.
"We're very happy to be apart of the construction project and we're confident they will provide the benefits they talked about," said Fore.
The company estimates the pipeline project brought more than $16 million to Missouri during construction. Fore says well-paid jobs are here to stay.
