You're going to pay more if you're off to grandmother's house this weekend. The BP station on Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City advertises regular unleaded fuel for $2.12 a gallon.

Many drivers begin worrying when gas creeps past $2, but some optimists say it could be worse.

"Actually, I don't think gas prices are that bad right now, and I don't think it will affect the holiday travel," said Karen Salk. "More people will be traveling now than they would have two or three months ago."

Other drivers see rising gas prices as just another problem in a long list of things bothering Missouri consumers.

"You know, as the director of a consumer organization, Missouri Watch, I'm extremely concerned about it because we really have felt like this year consumers have been hit the hardest," said Ashley Allen. "With tort reform, with work comp, and the gas prices and the war controversy, it's been absolutely crazy."

Whatever the price is, most Missouri residents are willing to pay this weekend if that's what it takes to spend the holidays with family. Although gas prices are more than $2, many drivers told KOMU they're just glad they're not as high as on the Thanksgiving holiday week, when prices reached more than $3 a gallon.
