The public defender for 15-year-old Elizabeth Bustamante, whom police accuse of murder, says his client is still in Morgan County Jail.

He says Alyssa should be in a psychiatric hospital instead.

Bustamante is accused of murdering 9-year old Elizabeth Olten on Oct. 21 near St. Martens, west of Jefferson City. Prosecutors say Bustamante wanted to know what it felt like to kill.

Missouri deer hunters had their worst season in 10 years.

Numbers from the state Conservation Department show hunters killed fewer than 200,000 deer. That's a 4 percent decrease from last  year. The department blames a rainy first four days of the hunting season for the low numbers. Texas County led the way with more than 4,000 kills.

The deer harvest wasn't good, but the Share the Harvest program is doing well. At last count, deer hunters donated more than 20,000 pounds of venison in mid-Missouri alone. A total of 16 pantries benefit from Share the Harvest. Deer meat will feed hungry families with recipes calling for chilli, spaghetti, and meatloaf.
