COLUMBIA - Wednesday was a nice day for a bike ride, and a group of MU students took advantage of the great weather.

The MU Environmental awareness group, Sustain Mizzou, kicked off its second annual Bike Fest Wednesday. The three day event encourages MU students to use bikes instead of cars.

Several community organizations were on hand to give biking tips and safety information. Students then took a guided ride through downtown Columbia.

Organizers say people probably do not realize the difference it makes by riding a bike.

"It would be an enormous difference. People would be healthier, there would be less of a carbon footprint for everyone and campus wouldn't be as clustered," said Rachel Brunner, coordinator of the event.

Bike Fest continues Thursday with free informational classes on campus.
