COLUMBIA - A vigil ceremony honoring victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy was held on the MU campus on Wednesday evening, exactly one year after the fatal shootings.
And although campus safety is an on-going thought, organizers were hoping to focus on peace at the vigil.
MU student Geoff Brooke came up with the idea, and several more people have gotten fully behind the vigil to honor the memory of those who did not make it. The goal of the vigil is to not only remember those who died, but to continually keep peace in the minds of students on campus.
The vigil was scheduled to include prayer, songs, readings, and a candle-lighting ceremony. The vigil is expected to last about half an hour.
And although this is a Christian focused ceremony, all were welcome to come.
"Regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs, an issue I think most of us can agree on is peace," said Brooke, "I think the majority of people out there are not going to disagree with peace and safety on our campus."
