JEFFERSON CITY - As the remnants from yet another hurricane hit Missouri, the issue of price gouging is a problem at some gas pumps around the state.

Gov. Matt Blunt hopes to deter any illegal actions and announced Saturday Attorney General Jay Nixon will investigate the issue.

In a statement, Blunt said he intends to protect Missouri families from illegal price fixing.

"We have seen price gouging in our state before, and I will not permit businesses to reap unjustified profits by using a natural disaster as an excuse to gouge Missouri familes who are already dealing with high prices at the pump," Blunt said.

Price gouging has been a problem in the past in Missouri.

After Hurricane Katrina, the state found 10 stations that raised their prices illegally.

And after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, investigators statewide uncovered nearly 50 stations. Those stations were fined for illegally raising their gas prices.
