COLUMBIA (AP) - The city of Columbia has a new feature on its Web site that allows people to see fire and emergency medical dispatches in real time. Anyone curious about ambulance or fire truck sirens going off in their neighborhoods can go online and find out what's happening. The information, including dispatch location and the type of response, is updated every minute. No police dispatch information is being displayed at this time. Public safety officials felt the dispatches would be of interest to the public. Battalion Fire Chief Steve Sapp said there was some concern about the release of certain medical information. That issue is being addressed.
