JEFFERSON CITY - MoDOT has created new tools to make your drive safe and uneventful. It now has a new online map and 24-hour toll free line.

Jennifer Ranabarger has been answering the MoDOT service line for five years. In the past, the toll free line just worked for eight hours a day, but now it offers 24/7 service.

"It's updated, and it is accurate, that's all new information we can give," explained Ranabarger.

MoDOT also offers a online Missouri map, showing work zones, accidents, and winter road conditions.

"We had offered a traveler information map, contained work-zone information, and then when it got close to this time of the year, we might expect bad weather, we got a winter weather map," said Sally Oxenhandler, community relations coordinator.

Different colors show how bad or good road conditions are. The map also shows work zone information, allowing drivers to plan their trips ahead of time.

If you're traveling outside of Missouri, there are links to road condition maps in other states.

Ranabarger has answered 100 calls today, but says when the weather's bad, she's much busier, taking up to 500 calls a day.

"Our number one goal is to keep drivers safe," said Ranabarger. She will be off duty, with her family, for Thanksgiving, but the phone line will up and running.

MoDOT also has installed 48 electronic message boards along Interstates 70 and 44.

They show road closings, accidents and hazardous road conditions.
