COLUMBIA - A year ago Wednesday Columbia bars and restaurants went smoke free.

Wednesday night people are gathering downtown to celebrate the anniversary. Many groups supporting the smoking ban are going to the Blue Note to honor the smoke free atmosphere.

The groups asked the Blue Note to host the festivities. Earlier Wednesday employees got ready to host the party. Many businesses will take part in the night's event by providing entertainment.

Richard King owns the Blue Note and says the night's celebration is progressive.

"I do believe that my building should be smoke free for the type of events that I have. As a believer as far as my business is concerned I am more than happy to host the event and welcome folks here to the Blue Note and let them know we are smoke free and happy to be smoke free."

And you can go out to the Blue Note Wednesday night until 8 p.m. and enjoy free food and music.
