FULTON - Residents opposed to the new landfill in Fulton met Monday to discuss their options, but there were some people who were not in attendance.

Fulton city officials were not invited to attend the meeting, because opponents like the spokesman against the landfill, David White, had to find main points against the landfill to submit to the city.

"We want to stop the landfill to going into Calloway County. The location is horrible, it will be hard on the economic development on the South end of Fulton," White said.

White said getting people organized is the biggest thing they need to do now.  One way, he said, was to have more people write letters to newspaper editors.  They want to persuade Fulton citizens not to vote for the new landfill.

White said they need to fill the fulton chamber with opposers on Jan 13 and they need to get their point across to the city officials who weren't invited to the meeting Monday.

They also talked about possible health hazards with the landfill being near houses. They are worried about wild animals possibly attacking children as they play in their backyards.
