PARIS - Late Friday night residents evacuated their homes as flood water seeped into them along the banks of the Middlefork and Salt River in Paris.

Some residents are stranded as most of the city's roads are under water. For one resident a trip that started in a car and ended in a boat, gave a wave of hope in the wake of disaster.

A trip that normally takes two minutes in the car for Doug Young and his daughter Kayleigh, took about twenty five minutes on Saturday. That's because the road they normally travel, was under water.

Kayleigh was dropped off Friday night, by car, for a sleepover at grandma's house.

"They're stuck, they can't get to town. I'll probably have to come back and bring them groceries and stuff like that," said Young.

What looked like a lake on Saturday, is actually a gravel road. The water is expected to be about eight feet deep, leaving residents stranded on both sides.

Another Paris resident was shocked when he woke up this morning and walked outside.

"I couldn't believe it. I'm on a hill that overlooks a big bottom, that whole bottom's probably about 6 feet under water," stated Curt Wheeler.

Wheeler did want us to know people there are doing all they can to take care of their own.

"We all help each other out and everything, or try too," said Wheeler.

As for Kayleigh, finally able to see her dad, she was a little disappointed in her new ride home.

Others in Paris are nervous that the rivers will get deeper, unless they let water out of Mark Twain Lake where runoff normally goes. With the lake already overflowing, some say only time will tell how many houses are destroyed.
