FORT LEONARD WOOD - Soldiers spent Thursday learning about a new vehicle meant to keep them safe on the battlefield.
Nearly 4,000 troops have died serving in the war in Iraq, and another 29,000 have been injured. A lot of those injuries happen while troops are on the move.
Many military officials hope that the number of soldier deaths will decrease with the addition of the M-1117 a new armored security vehicle.
Fort Leonard Wood sends military police companies to Iraq and the 463rd is about to head back.
"Fortunately, I have a lot of veterans from this last deployment to Iraq," said Capt. Eric Minor. "So we're pretty much ready to go."
When Minor's company goes back to Iraq it will be better protected, because it will be going with the M-1117. Minor's company spent Thursday learning about the new armored security vehicle.
Since his last deployment, more than 1,000 of the vehicles have rolled into Iraq.
"The way that the hull is designed, it's designed to deflect IED blasts away from the vehicle itself," he said.
Captain Minor's company heads out in June, and will be gone for about a year.
