CAMDENTON - When a Camdenton boy was handed lemons, he didn't just make lemonade. He set out to cure cancer.
Trevor McCoy has been operating a lemonade stand on Thunder Mountain Road in Camdenton, collecting donations one cup at a time, in honor of his grandpa.
"In August 2006, he died of cancer," Trevor remembers, "and that was pretty sad."
He operates the stand for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a charity helping fund the fight to cure cancer.
"I know how it feels to lose someone by cancer," Trevor explains. "It's pretty bad when you lose somebody, and a lot of people have, and I just want to stop it."
Trevor's mom, Suzanne McCoy, says he raised about $200 on Saturday, and he does not want to see a dime of it.
"I'm extremely proud of him," McCoy says. "He doesn't want a penny to himself, he wants to give it all to charity."
And Trevor said the going rate for lemonade has not been his asking price.
"Everybody's giving more than 50 cents for a lemonade," Trevor said.
His stand will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
