BOONE COUNTY - Mid-Missouri residents are cleaning up after weekend flooding.

In Columbia, Hinkson Creek flooded homes and businesses. Employees said floods brought out the best in people.

"You know what, it's been a great effort," said James Abrams, Vice President of Wilson's Fitness. "We've had members stop by and say any way we can help we'd love to help and the team, you know the Wilson's Fitness team is out here in full force."

Residents along the creek said it is easier to clean up now that the waters aren't rising.

"A little bit of relief that it was gone, or at least a little bit lower than it was yesterday," said Ashley Richards, whose home was threatened by water.

James Abrams said the clean up will not need to last much longer now that the levels are going down.

"Fantastic news, Wilson's Fitness will open tomorrow [Tuesday] morning," Abrams said.

Abrams said many Wilson's Fitness renovations that were in the works are now going to happen.

McBaine is cleaning up as well.

"When I talked to people last night, it was up to my porch light, so that means everything in there is already soaked," said McBaine resident Jackie Olk about her flooded home.

Sunday afternoon, rain water breached the levees at Perche Creek in western Boone County. Neighbors barely had enough time to get out.

"We're not gonna be able to use it now, I mean, it's all gonna have to go to the dumpster," said Shauna Marquardt of the Department of Conservation.

The Missouri Department of Conservation said there is no way to predict a situation like this.

"It's been a number of years since Perche Creek has actually come out to this extent. Last year it never did flood, it just got high, but that was it," Marquardt said.

Some near McBaine may remember the last major flood in that area, the flood of '93. Residents said that flood left water more than 10 feet higher than it is right now.
