COLUMBIA - Tiger fans may not remember Chase Daniel's first pass at Missouri in 2005 against Arkansas State at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
On that day, Daniel went 4 for 11 for 23 yards. In that same game which Brad Smith threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-17 victory over the Indians.
Three years and 8,797 yards later Daniel passed Brad Smith as Missouri's all time leading passer. Daniel broke the record with an 80 yard touchdown pass to wide reciever and fellow Heisman candidate, Jeremy Maclin.
"That's a big big thing for me. I'm very honored to be able to do it. There's been a lot of great quarterbacks to have played here. From Christman, to Corby Jones, to Brad Smith whose a legend in his own right doing amazing things in the NFL for the Jets, I'm very honored to be in that class of quarterbacks. And able to do it. I hope we still have a long way to go," Daniel said.
"Just learning from Brad Smith. He took some things from him. Brad showed him some stuff and he's just trying to get better ever since," Missouri senior wide receiver Tommy Saunders said of his quarterback.
Daniel has gotten better and better. A Heisman Trophy finalist a year ago, Daniel owns Missouri's single game passing record.
"Records are made to be broken and he's broken a lot. With Chase Daniel, he's a great quarterback everything will be great," said Missouri sophomore running back Derrick Washington.
"It's great. Ten years from now I'll be able to say I played with him. So, it's great to be able to look back at the record books and be like you know I played with this guy," said Missouri senior safety William Moore.
And Tiger fans will be able to say they watched him, Missouri's all time leading passer.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation named Chase Daniel O'Brien Quarterback of the Week for his performance against the Nevada Wolfpack on September 13. He completed 23 of 28 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns.
